How Carbonless Copy Paper Works
Each sheet in a carbonless set has a specific coating:
- CB (Coated Back): The top sheet — releases micro-encapsulated dye when pressure is applied
- CFB (Coated Front and Back): Middle sheets — receive the impression from above and transfer it below
- CF (Coated Front): The bottom sheet — receives the final impression
The chemistry is self-contained within the paper — no ribbons, no ink, no mess. Carbonless copy paper is suitable for writing with any pen (ballpoint recommended for best results) and for impact printing. It is not suitable for laser or inkjet printing (the heat or ink spray does not trigger the coating); for laser-compatible forms, we can advise on alternatives.
